Probability bands
High · Medium · Low · Very Low — how to read your shortlist
High
Your score/rank is comfortably inside recent closing cutoffs for that branch — historically a safer preference in early counselling rounds.
Medium
Close to the closing cutoff. Possible in later rounds or with category / domicile advantages — keep as a stretch + safety mix.
Low
Above typical closers. May open in sliding rounds or freeze years, but plan backups in Medium / High bands.
Very Low
Well above historical closers. Useful for awareness only — do not rely on these seats for counselling strategy.

How JoSAA college prediction works for JEE Main 2026
JoSAA allots NIT, IIIT and GFTI seats using your All India Rank, category, gender seat pool, and home-state quota. Predictor First mirrors that logic with multi-year opening and closing ranks (ORCR).
Start with marks, percentile, or an official rank. Marks and percentile are converted to an estimated rank band using recent score–rank curves; if you already have a CRL or category rank from NTA, paste it directly for a tighter shortlist.
Each institute–branch row is matched against JoSAA opening and closing ranks for your category and seat pool (Gender-Neutral or Female-only). Home-state (HS) vs other-state (OS) vs all-India (AI) quotas change the effective cutoff — especially for NITs — so your Class 12 domicile state matters.
We blend multiple counselling years so a single noisy freeze or expansion year does not dominate. Results are planning estimates for Class 11–12 preference lists, not official allotments. Always cross-check the latest JoSAA / CSAB business rules before locking choices.
What this page covers
- JEE Main → NITs, IIITs & GFTIs under JoSAA
- Category, gender pool, and domicile reshape HS / OS / AI cutoffs
- High / Medium / Low / Very Low bands help build a balanced choice list
- Switch to the Advanced predictor for IIT programmes
Method
Score → estimated rank → JoSAA ORCR match
Marks or percentile convert via recent score–rank curves, then match opening/closing ranks with category, gender pool, and home-state quota. Multi-year cutoffs are blended so one noisy year doesn’t dominate.

Frequently asked questions
- Which is the best way to use this JEE Main college predictor?
- Enter your expected or official JEE Main rank (or marks/percentile), pick category, seat pool, and 12th domicile, then hit Predict. You’ll get branch-level NIT / IIIT / GFTI options with High / Medium / Low / Very Low probability based on JoSAA cutoffs.
- Is this an official JoSAA allotment?
- No. Results are planning estimates from historical counselling data and score–rank trends. Always verify with the latest JoSAA / CSAB information and institute business rules before freezing choices.
- Does this cover IITs?
- IIT programmes need JEE Advanced. Use the JEE Advanced college predictor for IIT shortlists. This Main predictor focuses on NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs under JoSAA.
- Can I filter by category and state?
- Yes. Category, gender seat pool, and domicile state change which quota seats (HS / OS / AI) are matched for you — critical for NIT home-state advantage.
- How accurate is marks or percentile to rank conversion?
- Score–rank curves are built from recent sessions and produce an estimated rank band, not a guaranteed CRL. After NTA publishes your official rank, re-run the predictor with rank for the tightest shortlist.
- What do High, Medium, Low and Very Low mean?
- Bands compare your rank to multi-year closing ranks for that institute–branch–category–pool. High is historically safer; Medium is borderline; Low and Very Low are stretch options for awareness while you build a balanced preference list.
- Does domicile affect NIT predictions?
- Yes. Most NITs reserve a home-state quota with different closing ranks than other-state seats. Enter the state of your Class 12 board correctly so HS vs OS rows can be matched.
- Can I predict colleges for Delhi campuses like DTU and NSUT?
- JoSAA Main mode focuses on NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs. DTU / NSUT / IIIT-Delhi often appear via JAC Delhi with JEE Main ranks — check our cutoff snapshot and Delhi engineering colleges guide.
- Is the JEE Main college predictor free?
- Yes, trying it is free. Sign up (also free) to see your complete college shortlist, plus exam alerts, mocks, and college updates for Class 11–12.
