• Safe — your rank is comfortably better than recent closing ranks.
• Moderate — near the edge; possible in later rounds or with category / HS advantage.
• Ambitious / Reach — dream options; keep some, never fill only these.

Recommended workflow

   Know your rank inputs

   Use CRL / category rank, gender pool, and 12th domicile. Home-state quota changes NIT cutoffs sharply.

   Generate a first draft list

   Run the JEE Main or Advanced predictor, then open Choice-Fill Studio to auto-build a balanced preference list.

   Check cutoff history

   Open Cutoff Intelligence on each serious option. Look at multi-year closing ranks, not a single noisy year.

   Reorder for real preference

   Drag favourites up, keep enough Safes, remove duplicates, and export to Excel before the JoSAA portal opens.

   Use mock allotments

   JoSAA mock rounds exist so you can fix a bad order. Do not lock a dream-only list after the first mock.

FAQ

How many choices should I fill in JoSAA?

Fill as many eligible programmes as you can reasonably rank. Short lists of only dream CSE seats are a common reason students get no allotment. Mix Safe, Moderate and Ambitious options.

What is the difference between JoSAA and CSAB?

JoSAA runs the main rounds for IITs (via Advanced) and NIT+ institutes (via Main). CSAB Special Round fills leftover NIT+ seats after JoSAA. Keep a longer Safe/Moderate tail for CSAB.

Should Safe colleges be at the top or bottom?
